Uta Gets Teased But Keeps Running Anyway

This post is from a video we put up on March 2, 2026, titled '[Cry] Even if teased, keep going!' It's not a race report. It's just one of those days.

Uta came home upset. Some kids had teased her, and she cried about it. But she still laced up and kept training, and that's really the whole video.

What happened that day

Uta is still in elementary school here in Japan, and like a lot of kids who run, she sometimes gets teased for it. I don't know the exact words the other kids used, and the video doesn't show that part. What it shows is the aftermath: Uta crying, clearly hurt, and then going out to train anyway.

The description we wrote for the video is short, just one line: 'It's because I kept up the effort that I'm here now.' That line is really about the whole stretch of time, not just this one afternoon. But this was the day it felt true in a very raw way. She was upset, and she still did the work.

There's no race in this one. No course, no finish line, no time to report. Some days with a young runner are just about whether she shows up for practice after something has knocked her down a little. This was one of those days, and she showed up.

What I thought about it

Watching her cry and then go train anyway is harder to sit through than watching her race, honestly. In a race I can cheer. Here I just had to let her feel bad for a minute and then let her decide to keep going on her own.

I didn't push her out the door. She chose to keep her routine even though she'd just been teased for having that routine in the first place. That's the part I keep thinking about. Kids get told running is weird, or too much, or whatever version of teasing lands on a given day. She heard it, it stung, and she went anyway.

I don't think this video proves anything about talent or future results. It's not that kind of story. It's more that persistence isn't usually a dramatic thing. It's a kid wiping her face and putting her shoes on. The description line about effort getting her to where she is now wasn't written for a highlight reel. It was written for a day like this one, where the effort is just continuing to show up.

I posted it because I think other parents of young runners have had this exact afternoon. The tears, the decision to keep going anyway, no trophy at the end of it. Just the next day of training, same as before.

If your kid has ever been teased for the sport they love and kept doing it anyway, you already know this video. There's nothing to add to it except: she kept going.

We film every step of Uta's journey.
