October 2026 Training Recap - 101.7 km, Steady miles, two PBs, on-target balance

October was a busy month for Uta - four races, two personal bests, and a training load that eased off a bit as the weeks went on. Here's what the numbers from her log show.

She trained 21 days and rested 9, covering 101.7 km in total, for an average of 4.8 km on the days she ran.

What the training looked like

The month started with a short week - just 2 days and 11.6 km from October 1st to 4th. After that she settled into a steadier rhythm: 27.5 km over 5 days in the second week, then 26.4 km over 5 days in the third. The last two weeks tapered down, to 18.4 km over 5 days and then 17.9 km over only 3 days as the month wound down around her races.

Compared with September, when she ran 108.4 km over 20 days, October was a touch lighter overall despite one more training day. Looking back across the last six months (April through September, which ranged from 88.6 km in August up to 123.1 km in July), October's 101.7 km sits comfortably in the middle of that range - not the highest or the lowest of the six months, just a steady month in between.

Aerobic vs quality

Of the 101.7 km, 75.3 km was aerobic running and 17.9 km was quality work, a split of 81% to 19%. The app's target range is 80-85% aerobic and 15-20% quality, so October landed right inside that band on both sides.

She did 9 quality sessions in the month, and her longest single session was an interval workout on October 27th, 7.9 km, the biggest session of the month by distance. Across all her sessions, the kinds break down to 15 jogs, 6 interval sessions, and 4 races - so the quality work was spread between structured intervals and race efforts rather than piled into one block.

Races and marks

Uta raced four times in October, roughly once a week. On October 4th she ran the 3km road event at Tsurugajo Half (a road race event in Fukushima) in 12:08.00. On October 11th, at the Kariwa Sawayaka Marathon, a small local road race in Niigata, she ran 1500m in 5:27.00 - a personal best, down from her previous mark of 5:47.00. On October 18th she ran the 1400m road leg at the Osaka Elementary School Ekiden (a road relay where team-mates pass a sash) in 5:08.00. Then on October 25th, at the Sainokuni Club Meet (Autumn), a track-and-field style meet in Saitama, north of Tokyo, she threw the javelin ball 34m83cm, also a personal best, improving from 33m04cm.

Two PBs in one month, in two very different events - a distance PB on the road and a throwing PB at a field meet - is a nice spread for October.

Looking at next month

The numbers don't point to any big change needed. October's aerobic-to-quality split was right inside the target range, so there's no obvious reason to adjust that mix going into November. Total volume did ease off in the back half of the month, from 26.4 km down to 17.9 km in the final week, which fits with a busy race schedule of four events across four weekends. If that pattern holds, a lighter volume week around races looks like part of how this month settled, rather than anything the numbers suggest needs fixing.

Two PBs and a training balance sitting right where the app says it should be - that's a solid way to close out October. We'll see what November's log looks like.
